About First Baptist Church

First Baptist Church was founded in March 1958 by the Southern Baptist Convention, with Cecil Morgan as the first pastor called to serve.  First Baptist Church was instrumental in the ministry at the local Indian School (now closed), building a mission chapel.  This was followed by a Spanish-speaking mission.  Outreach was extended to nearby Tremonton just to the north.

We are a small fellowship of believers who seek to do the Lord's will in this community.  The congregation is pastored by J. M. (Mac) Edwards, senior pastor.

Pastor Mac Edwards

Mac’s objective as pastor is to encourage discipleship of believers, and help this church grow in Christ in our community.  His calling is “to teach and train committed Christians how to grow closer to the Lord, to care for people around them, and to share their faith with the unsaved and, thereby, fulfill the Great Commission to make disciples (Matthew 28:19, Psalm 52:13).” Mac made his profession of faith at age nine at Bear River Valley Baptist Church in Tremonton, Utah.  By age ten he knew he needed to go to seminary to get an education. He graduated from Box Elder High in 1976 and earned a BA in Speech and Dramatic Arts in 1980 from Samford University in Birmingham, Alabama.  He went on to earn two graduate degrees, a Master of Arts in Religious Education in 1982 and a Masters of Arts in Communication in 1986, from Southwestern Seminary in Fort Worth, Texas.

Edwards is known locally in Brigham City for his volunteer work with Heritage Community Theatre, Family Support Center, Box Elder Community Pantry, Golden Spike Railroad Association, Box Elder Tourism Council, and the Brigham City Chamber of Commerce, where he served two terms as Chamber President.  He has also emceed the Peach Days parade for several years.

What To Expect

The worship services include a mix of hymns, contemporary songs, and special music -- using instruments, as we give glory to God through music.

The morning sermon is a Bible-based, inspirational, and uplifting message that applies to our ministry of reaching others for Christ and equipping the congregation for Christian service in the community.

We have Sunday School for all ages prior to the Worship Service.  Bring yourself, the whole family, or a friend.
